Clear Creek drops 6,000 vertical feet from the Continental Divide near
Loveland Pass through Georgetown, Idaho Springs, and Clear Creek Canyon
to its confluence with the South Platte at Commerce City. Steep,
pool-drop, snowmelt-fed, dam-free below Georgetown — Colorado's premier
Front Range steep creek and a busy commercial day-trip corridor along
US-6. Upper reaches above Idaho Springs are Class IV–V expert; the
canyon below is the Class III–IV commercial run; the lower river through
the Clear Creek Whitewater Park in Golden is Class II–III play boating.
