Middle Fork Salmon River
The Middle Fork of the Salmon is the wilderness river — 100 miles through
the Frank Church – River of No Return Wilderness, dropping 3,000 feet
from Boundary Creek to the confluence with the Main Salmon at Cache Bar.
Free-flowing, snowmelt-fed, no road access between put-in and take-out;
natural hot springs, granite gorges, and ~100 named rapids including
Velvet Falls (Class IV), Pistol Creek (Class IV), Tappan Falls (Class IV),
and Redside (Class IV). One of the original eight Wild & Scenic Rivers
(1968) and one of the hardest permits in the country (4-Rivers lottery,
