Salmon River

ID • US

The Salmon River — the "River of No Return" — flows 425 miles entirely
within Idaho through the second-deepest gorge in North America. The
Middle Fork (Boundary Creek to Cache Bar, 100 miles) is widely regarded
as the finest permitted multi-day whitewater trip in the Lower 48. The
Main Salmon (Corn Creek to Vinegar Creek, 80 miles) offers big sandy
beaches and Class III big water. The Lower Salmon adds another 73 miles
of free-flow to the Snake confluence. Both the Middle Fork and Main are
USFS permit-required (lottery Jun 20–Sep 7).
